Types of Metals
WHAT TYPES OF METAL DO WE USE?
Here at TheArtisanRings we use a great variety of precious and fine metals to create our stunning line of rings. The following article will contain information on the metals we use and their special characteristics.
Tungsten Carbide
While not nearly as well known as Gold, Tungsten carbide is a beautiful metal with great application in the jewelry world. It is ten times stronger than Gold and this makes it a good choice for a wide range of bridal jewelry that you want to last a lifetime. For an expression of undying sentiment choose a Tungsten Ring.
Tungsten's hardness also has its disadvantages. In fact, the harder the metal, the more brittle and breakable it is (unlike gold, which is soft and malleable, meaning it will bend rather than break). If you drop a tungsten ring, or if you accidentally smash it against a hard surface, the metal may crack or shatter.
HI-Tech Ceramic
Previously used in the medicine and aeronautics, hi-tech ceramic is a glossy black material that is both durable and dazzling at the same time. It made its way into the world of jewelry via watch making. They are created through an evolved plan of glazing and firing that makes them especially resistant to scratching.
Titanium
Another precious metal valued for its beauty and durability is titanium and has seen much application in the realm of designer jewelry. Titanium is an inert metal and this makes it a good choice to those with sensitivities to metals. Durable, lightweight and scratch resistant, titanium rings can also be alloyed with gold.
Stainless Steel
Stainless Steel might not sound as alluring as gold, but it will outlast a gold ring and you will find a great variety of options to choose from.
Sterling Silver
It seems many prefer Silver to Gold nowadays and it does seem to go well with just about everything. Sterling silver is 92.5% Solid silver with some other metals, added for strength and durability. This allows the silver ring to take on a strength to endure. You can find some beautiful silver rings inlaid with fine woods a truly remarkable appeal.
Platinum
This fine metal has often been considered the ultimate symbol of prestige and excellence. Platinum rings have a special glow and warm beauty about them.
Damascus Steel
This steel of great strength and beauty was once applied to making the finest sword in the cradle of civilization. It can also be applied to creating some rugged and beautiful ring designs that create a bold statement and match any style. The wavy curvy designs and patterns give this steel its singular beauty.
